Harmonious groups, sweet Edens on calm streams,
Countless oases robed in golden flowers,
Which waves caress and the fair reed embowers
With rich confusion of its tall green gleams;
Wave-cradled groves, that song-birds lull to dreams,
Where zephyrs sway the nests in leafy towers;
Mysterious maze fresh from perpetual showers,
Green chaplet strewn 'mid the blue water's beams.
When first I saw, 'neath your o'erhanging shade,
Your mirrored forms in the calm water's face,
A warm June sun gilded each green retreat,
Soft, thrilling perfumes rose from every glade,
And I believed myself in that dream-place
Where sylph and humming-birds hold revels sweet!
